The product
What is Recourse?
Recourse is a damages platform for plaintiff-side employment lawyers. It computes the make-whole number for a case — back pay, front pay, prejudgment interest, FLSA liquidated damages, and lost benefits — and exports a court-ready report where every figure shows its math and its citation.
What can it calculate?
Back pay (with actual day-counting, scheduled raises, and interim-earnings offsets), front pay present-valued to your work-life and discount assumptions, prejudgment interest at statutory or custom rates, FLSA unpaid wages and liquidated doubling, lost benefits (including health, retirement, and W-2 Box-12 values), mitigation offsets, and Title VII compensatory/punitive statutory caps by employer size.
Who is it for?
Plaintiff-side employment lawyers and firms, from solo practitioners to larger firms. It’s built for the way employment damages actually work — not a generic financial calculator.
Can I run alternative scenarios?
Yes. You can model multiple scenarios on a case — different assumptions, dates, or rates — and compare them side by side in the report, so you can see the range before you negotiate.
How it works
How does the client intake portal work?
You can invite a client to complete a guided intake in their own portal — wages, benefits, timeline, and supporting documents. What they submit flows into the case, and you review and import it into the calculation, so you’re not re-keying data.
Can it pull figures from documents?
Yes. Document extraction reads pay records, offer letters, and W-2s so you can bring figures into the case without manual entry. You always confirm what gets used.
How current are the interest and benefits rates?
IRS underpayment interest rates refresh automatically each quarter. Benefits-load figures come from a dated BLS snapshot that is always shown with its vintage — never guessed.
What does the export look like?
A clean damages report — PDF or Excel — with every rate, date, and assumption on the page, plus the evidence references behind each category. There’s an attorney work-product version and a client/production version that strips firm branding.
Methodology
How does it handle mitigation?
Interim earnings are tracked period by period and offset against back pay; you can also document job-search activity for the failure-to-mitigate defense. Detailed methodology articles live in the in-app help center once you’re signed in.
What cuts off back pay?
Recourse models the events that end the back-pay period (for example, a comparable-job offer or other cutoff events) so the accrual stops on the right date. The in-app help center walks through each case.
How is front pay present-valued?
Future lost earnings are discounted to present value using your work-life horizon and discount-rate assumptions, with both nominal and present-value figures shown so the basis is transparent.
How are statutory caps applied?
Title VII compensatory and punitive caps are applied by employer size, and the report flags when a cap is binding. Claims that carry no cap are handled under the most-favorable rule. Detail is in the in-app help center.
Security & privilege
Is my client data secure?
Each firm’s data is isolated from every other firm’s, access is controlled per user and role, and traffic is encrypted in transit. See our Privacy Policy for how data is handled.
Is Recourse attorney-client-privilege aware?
Yes. The product is built for confidential legal work: case material stays within your firm’s workspace, and exports include the appropriate work-product handling. Recourse acts as your service provider and processes case data on your instructions.
Is it plaintiff-side only?
Yes — Recourse is built for plaintiff-side employment practice.
Pricing & trial
How much does it cost?
Solo is $99/mo for a single attorney and Standard is $149 per seat/mo for firms, with add-ons (a Lead-Gen intake widget and extra staff/paralegal seats) available on Standard. Larger firms can talk to us about Enterprise. See pricing.
What’s included in the free trial?
A 14-day free trial gives you full access so you can put a real case in front of it. You won’t be charged during the trial, and you can cancel anytime before it ends.
Can I add attorneys or paralegals later?
Yes. On Standard you can add attorney seats and staff/paralegal seats as your team grows, and add the Lead-Gen widget when you want it. You manage all of this from billing in the app.
